PRISMA.experTalk: Traffic management unites forces!

How can one control the traffic flow in an area-compatible way and at the same time minimize the negative effects of the traffic volume? This is the central question in traffic management.

Digitization enables an increase in efficiency in traffic management through the use of synergy effects. Strategies are no longer displayed exclusively via the physical infrastructure, but are available via data and services in data marketplaces. In this way, road users in both the real and the digital world are informed without contradiction. In addition, public sector strategies are no longer spatially restricted. The environment benefits from this; Individual benefits and traffic safety are also increased.

However, the new digital possibilities are not yet common practice. Deficits in the implementation of nationally recommended standards and obstacles in data exchange lead to the fact that existing potential is not fully exploited.

The Munich and Oberland region clearly shows the added value that arises from everyday cooperation. The SATURN project is about planning, recording, maintaining and publishing traffic management strategies in several pilot areas across borders and across the board. The TEMPUS project, on the other hand, is dedicated to realistic testing of automated and networked driving of private and public transport in real traffic situations. In both projects, traffic management strategies are planned, triggered and communicated in cooperation between the city and the surrounding area of Munich.

Based on these practical examples from everyday project and authority work, our experts show what it takes for such cooperation to be successful - for everyone involved, between different levels, responsibilities and areas of responsibility in traffic management. It works with combined forces!
