Behavioral economic approaches in traffic management

PRISMA at the dialogue event on behavioral economics in mobility in Zurich

We at PRISMA deal with digitization in traffic management. But by no means only with questions about technology. As recently presented in the latest PRISMA.experTalk, the question always arises for us as to how we can provide organizational and content-related support: in particular how existing potential in cooperative traffic management can be used in the best possible way. Because they often remain unused and fallow. The reasons for this are a lack of information exchange and cooperation, but also an insufficient use of behavioral economic instruments to influence road users in terms of the mobility turnaround. Behavioral economic approaches to meet the existing challenges were also a topic at AVENIR MOBILITÉ on June 12, 2023.

Our practical experience with instruments for influencing behavior and their potential as well as current challenges were presented by PRISMA Managing Director Stefan Kollarits on this occasion in his presentation contribution "Mobility turnaround - traffic policy goals, misjudgments and fact-based solutions".

As propagated at the event, the use of the possibilities of behavioral economics is not just "nice to have", but a "must-have" for improved processes in the transport system of the future. Last but not least, the exchange of mobility data required for the best possible traffic control requires cooperation - strengthening this is a major concern of PRISMA and the basis for a promising future in cooperative traffic management.
