EU-wide provision of digital traffic data – what are the consequences?
That's the topic of October's PRISMA.experTalk
The introduction of intelligent transport systems is accelerating throughout the EU. This development is accompanied by an increasingly routine use of real-time traffic information. The public sector is experiencing a dynamism in its processes through digital traffic information. The large treasure trove of data with which it operates offers almost limitless possibilities for use.
Road users should also be ensured that such information can be received and used; this was implemented at EU level with the ITS Directive and the corresponding delegated regulations and incorporated into requirements for the provision of digital traffic data. This legal framework specifies the accessibility, exchange, reuse and updating of data for the provision of EU-wide real-time traffic information services.
What does this mean for actors in the transport sector? Obligations to provide data digitally are created. In some places, the use of digital traffic data may already be common practice, for others the necessary steps are still unclear. There are numerous questions and ongoing discussions about the extent of implementation in the EU countries; there is also room for interpretation that has not yet been fully clarified.
But we are convinced: whether we are already using intelligent traffic data on a daily basis or whether digitalization has not yet been fully implemented in everyday working life - there will be a solution and definable processes. And we would like to help shed some light on the matter. To this end, we have invited experts to the upcoming PRISMA.experTalk who will help us look at the topic from different perspectives.
