PSI – Parking Space Insights

It is a challenge that is constantly gaining in importance: the organization of stationary traffic. This influences various planning tasks such as land use, climate protection or the cityscape. Organizing the number of parked cars in the best possible way is fundamentally a municipal task; however, this is offset by a moderate data situation and a large variety of parking types.

yVerkehrsplanung, TU Graz, Trafficon and we at PRISMA were commissioned by the BMK (Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Innovation and Technology) and the Climate and Energy Fund (KLIEN) to provide new insights here as part of PSI. The focus of PSI is accordingly: the project team will make a contribution to clarifying data availability and fusion and estimate parking space supply and demand with software support. This corresponds to the call for tenders "Digital Transformation in Mobility 2023" in the context of the corresponding action plan.

PRISMA is responsible for the conception and development of a data platform for data on parking space supply and demand. Standards for data structuring (such as Datex2) are largely used and algorithms are developed for the (partially) automated filling of this platform. The data platform and algorithms use PRISMA's many years of experience in parking data management, which is in practical use by our customers with TRAFF-X.parkinfo.

18 months are planned for the completion of the order. In March 2026, we would like to demonstrate together how easy, comprehensible and cost-effective monitoring of stationary traffic can be implemented. The first coordination between all project partners on how this goal can be achieved took place on October 17th at the PRISMA headquarters in Mödling. We look forward to further meetings and to a great project result!
