PRISMA input to a new flagship project

In September 2022, a new, ambitious research project was kicked off. Its aim is to define tools with which spatial structures can be transformed in such a way that sustainable mobility is promoted and at the same time the quality of life and locations in Austria is preserved. The focus is on climate-friendly, efficient and affordable mobility: Trans|formator:in - a flagship project, piloting transferrable approaches for integrated transformation of public mobility areas.

A complex project title for a comprehensive research assignment. The consortium is also large: as part of this strategic lead project, PRISMA is cooperating with 22 project partners in German-speaking countries under the direction of tbw research GmbH. In addition to numerous representatives from the R&D landscape and seven city administrations, who act as project pilots, mobility centers and service providers are also involved in the project implementation. And the tasks in the project are also multidimensional: after all, in the four years of implementation, spatial analyses, conception and implementation of pilots, monitoring, evaluation and feedback processes as well as a broad-based communication strategy shall be successfully implemented. An essential part of the project is the creation of a comprehensive digital data and planning basis.

PRISMA expertise is required right from the start: our colleagues involved in the project start with an overview of the tools available to create such a basis. The focus is on innovative digital planning tools in the field of mobility management, such as those used in the areas of analysis and evaluation methods, impact assessment and analysis, and monitoring. Based on this, toolboxes are defined for various project pilots: finally, options for improved quality and accessibility of the mobility offer, sharing offers and a traffic-saving land use concept are to be tested by Trans|formator:in.

The necessary project steps and the joint approach up to the summer of 2026 were jointly defined by the consortium at the kickoff event, which took place in Vienna at the end of September on the premises of the Vienna University of Technology. We are pleased to be able to contribute our expertise to this exciting project!

Trans|formator:in is funded by the BMK as part of the FFG program "Mobility of the Future".
